As a neophyte to herbalism, I’m only just discovering tinctures. I’ve been taking a St. John’s Wort tincture for my anxiety and I can tell that it makes a difference. The one drawback is that those little one-ounce bottles are exxxxxxxpensive! Making your own herbal tinctures isn’t hard, and they are far more economical than going to Whole Foods and buying the manufactured ones yourself. To see how to start your own tinctures, read on!
About me
A half-life
I think that if I was granted a wish, it would be that, for just one day, I could feel normal. To wake up gradually, easing myself into consciousness. Once I was wide awake, I’d be able to roll out of bed, maybe have a cup of tea, and relax. I’d think about what faced me in the day ahead, but that’s all they would be – simple thoughts. They wouldn’t bombard me from the second I wake up. My chest wouldn’t burn. My heart wouldn’t pound. I wouldn’t gasp for air, the bile at the back of my throat scalding me. My mind wouldn’t race with uncontrolled worries about what I was facing that day with work, with my family, or any other minor aspect of my life.
I have a mental illness. It’s not something I talk about very often, but it’s with me every second of the day. Continue reading
The Monuments Men – a review
I usually don’t talk too much about movies on this blog, even though I’m a lover of film. In my internet surfing these last 24 hours, I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews for The Monuments Men and, frankly, I’m annoyed, so here I am to talk about this movie, which Tim and I went to see yesterday.
Takin’ the plunge
After four years of wishing and wanting and hem-hawing around, I’m finally taking the plunge to seriously study herbalism. Continue reading
If the spiritual journey is like a winding road, I’m stuck on a bypass…
Tim and I have 90% of our conversations about religion in the car. Not sure why it happens that way, but when we’re heading somewhere is when, inevitably, the conversation turns to religion. Continue reading
Four years – a family
I meant to post this on January 23rd, but I failed to do so. That was the four year anniversary of the day we brought home the wiggly, gassy ball of adorable four-month-old fur that we named Roxie. Continue reading
We pulled the plug!
We did it. After a lot of discussion and, on Tim’s part, a lot of soul-searching, we pulled the plug. We took our entertainment options off life support and canceled our cable TV. Continue reading
Microsoft Surface 2 – a non-techie’s review of why she fired her iPad
I’ve wanted to blog about my Surface 2 since I bought it back in October. Yeah, it’s January and I’m just now getting around to it, but better late than never, eh?
Let me start by saying that you will find no hard technical specs comparisons to other devices in this post because, frankly, the average user doesn’t care much about that stuff. In fact, if you start rambling on about processor speed and screen resolution, I’m going to tune you out faster than a Taylor Swift song. What we want are devices that ingrain themselves into our lives and become invaluable to us, right? Well, stay tuned.
