Had I not turned off my alarm at 6:30a and then accidentally slept until 9:08a, this would have been the most perfect of Sundays. Despite my proclivity of alarm avoidance (third time this long holiday weekend), I managed to have the kind of Sunday that truly prepares me to deal with commuting and general ridiculousness on Monday. Merry maudlin Christmas!
Merry Christmas! To anyone that reads this, I hope that your Christmas (if you celebrate it) was beautiful and completely free of stress. As for us, we couldn’t have asked for a more low-key holiday. Honestly, as the sun slips away and darkness arrives once again, I find myself maudlin. Continue reading
Christmas trees, musicals, and making a community
I’m taking a break from dinner preparations to get this post up. I’m having a “Transplant to Seattle” Thanksgiving dinner today at my house, and I’m hosting a few of my co-workers and their spouses who also uprooted their lives this year and moved out here to join our team. Being two thousand miles from home means that, if we let ourselves, we can become very insulated out here. With no family and no “community” to speak of, it would be very easy to say that we live here, but do we live here? Continue reading
I love Washington! Yay! New car! Yay! General Conference weekend! Yay! (Major update)
I really am going to get better at updating this blog. I’ve been neglecting it for months and I always have the best of intentions of updating it, but at the end of a long workday, I can barely keep my eyes open long enough to put on my pajamas, let alone string together words. We’re getting situated and settled in here and I’m so in love with Washington state that it’s ridiculous. Continue reading
Moving Adventures – Holiday road!
My blog has fallen by the wayside. Moving does that. I thought about updating multiple times, but when the situation was fluid, I was brimming with anxiety and unease and the last thing I wanted to do was put that all down for posterity. Now, though, I’m on the other side of it and now it’s time to chronicle the journey.
I started my new role in Seattle on July 27th, but the house we were moving into wasn’t available for possession until August 15th. As a result, I lived in corporate housing for a little over two weeks. Having my own tiny apartment in downtown Seattle was kind of awesome. I loved the chance to have the experience, and Skyping/FaceTiming with my husband and mom made the situation much more bearable. I flew back to Indianapolis, arriving in the wee hours of August 13th. The movers had come the week before so our townhouse was pretty empty, but we still had a lot to deal with (see the first bullet point below!) and then we hit the road that night at 7:30pm. Tim, Roxie, me, and a ton of junk crammed into and atop of a Chevy HHR. I threatened to play “Holiday Road” from National Lampoon’s Vacation for the duration of the drive, but the idea was quickly vetoed. (Still not happy about that. I hummed it for the first twenty miles instead.) From the moment we pulled away from the home we’d known, it was nothing short of an adventure. Read on… Continue reading
Super quick mid-move update
So the thing about moving and anxiety is that they don’t mix. At all. Continue reading
Materializing memories
When preparing to move, rooting through boxes of crap is inevitable. You find things like your high school yearbooks, which you haven’t looked at in years because you’re friends with most of those people on Facebook anyway. You find your collection of New Kids on the Block memorabilia from when you were just a kid, and your husband urges you to throw it all away, only to receive a heated glare because your Joe McIntyre doll isn’t going anywhere. Continue reading
And with that, everything changes!
Friday morning at 5:40am, I returned home from Seattle, where I’d gone for an interview for an internal transfer within the very large company for which I work. Friday evening at 5:25pm, I got the call notifying me that I’d done very well on my interviews and would be receiving a job offer. So with that, I’m happy to report that WE’RE MOVING TO SEATTLE!!!!!!
I’ve only just arrived home from work (I was on my way in when I got the call), so it really hasn’t sunk in yet. The one thing I know without a doubt is that God answers prayers, sometimes in a big way! There is so much to do and plan and prepare for in the next few weeks! My blog is about to take a major shift because our lives as we know it are starting fresh, 2,300 miles to the west!
More later. It’s bedtime!
